Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs has apologised for his actions in a letter to Arun Subramanian, the judge overseeing his sentencing for prostitution-related convictions.
In a four-page letter dated October 2, Combs said he takes “full responsibility and accountability” for his actions. He apologised to all the people he had hurt, and pleaded for leniency during his sentencing on Friday.
The 55-year-old music mogul also offered direct apologies to his ex-partner Cassie Ventura, and another victim identified in court as “Jane”.
“I literally lost my mind. I was dead wrong for putting my hands on the woman that I loved,” he wrote of Ventura.
“I’m sorry for that and always will be. My domestic violence will always be a heavy burden that I will have to forever carry.”
On Jane’s testimony, he added: “Your honor, I thought I was providing for Jane concerning her and her child, but after hearing her testimony, I realized that I hurt her. For this, I am deeply sorry.”
Combs said his actions were “rooted in my selfishness” and that he was “lost in the drugs and the excess”. He noted that his year-long detention had compelled him to reflect.
“There have been some days I thought I would be better off dead. The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn. Prison will change you or kill you — I choose to live,” he said.
The rapper and producer asked the court for a light sentence, saying he wanted “another chance to be a better father, another chance to be a better son, another chance to be a better leader in my community, and another chance to live a better life”.
“I realize that I am in a situation where no amount of money, power or fame can save me. Only God can save me,” he added.
“I ask you for mercy today, not only for my sake, but for the sake of my children.”
Combs was arrested in September 2024 after more than 120 accusers, including a minor, came forward with allegations of kidnapping, blackmail, abuse and prostitution-related crimes.
In July, a jury convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution linked to encounters with Ventura and Jane.
He was, however, acquitted of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion and racketeering conspiracy.
Although cleared of the most severe charges, Combs still faces up to 10 years per count at sentencing.
Earlier this week, federal prosecutors requested an 11-year sentence, describing Combs as “unrepentant” and leaving his victims in fear.
His defense team, however, is pushing for 14 months, which is equivalent to the time already served since his arrest in 2024.
