The Council of Chiefs Minnesota (CCM) recently celebrated its inauguration in style, showcasing the richness of Urhobo and Delta culture at the Brooklyn Park Community Center in the United States.

The CCM is an organisation of traditional title holders from Delta state in Minnesota.

During the inaugural ceremony, which was held on October 5, 2024, notable figures like Ifeanyi Okowa, former Delta state governor, and Jite Brown, the chairman of Udu LGA, were also honoured by Hollies Winston, the Mayor of Brooklyn Park.

Okowa received a leadership award for facilitating a sister-city relationship between Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Udu LGA of Delta and promoting rural development.

Richard Iyede and Blessing Isinyemeze of Ugbodu Kingdom accepted Brown and Okowa’s awards respectively on their behalf.

Winston also revealed that the partnership would extend beyond cultural exchange to encompass economic and technological collaboration for the mutual benefit of both societies.

Earlier, at Hennepin Community College, ace actor Richard Mofe Damijo showcased his expertise in a masterclass titled ‘A Conversation with RMD’. He also received the Global Ambassador of the Performing Arts award.

The event featured a vibrant performance from singer Mike Okri who lit up the night with his popular songs.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Godfrey Edaferierhi, the CCM president, emphasized the organization’s significance and achievements, notably establishing the partnership between Brooklyn Park and Udu LGA.

Those in attendance include Clement Okitikpi, Okagbare Ralph Dema, Jonathan Wittney, Onome Dema, Ochuko Okitikpi, Lucky Memene, Samuel Ukwesa, Sam Ogaga, Oghogho Manuwa, and James Oghenekaro.
