Davido, the Afrobeats star, has dismissed a viral claim that a fan slapped him during a recent wedding appearance in Warri, Delta state.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, was a special guest at the wedding of philanthropist Michael Ikuku’s daughter last weekend.

He performed a set of his hit songs, including ‘Feel’, ‘Dami Duro’, and ‘With You,’ much to the delight of the guests.

A video from the event later surfaced online showing Davido being escorted by his security team through a boisterous crowd.

Amid the commotion, the singer is seen being hit on the head. He briefly glanced around before continuing his exit.

The clip prompted an X user to allege, “Warri people no get joy oo. See dem sl@p Davido for head” — insinuating the singer had been intentionally struck by an attendee.

Davido directly responded to the claim on the social media platform, labelling the user a “Mumu” (a fool) and a “saddist” who misunderstood the situation.

He clarified that the contact was an accidental hit from his own security personnel in the midst of controlling the enthusiastic crowd.

“Mumu that was my security .. hit me by mistake .. saddist,” the singer wrote.

Davido, one of Africa’s most prominent artists and a member of the Afrobeats ‘Big Three,’ rose to fame in 2012 with his hit ‘Dami Duro.’

He has since solidified his status with acclaimed albums including ‘A Good Time’ (2019), ‘A Better Time’ (2020), and the record-breaking ‘Timeless’ (2023).

He recently released his fourth studio album, ‘5ive,’ in April and embarked on a corresponding 5-city tour.
