The 66th edition of Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 4, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The 31-year-old is among the first-time nominees for the newly introduced ‘Best African Performance’ category.

Davido also earned nominations in two other categories — ‘Best Global Album’ for his latest album, ‘Timeless’; and ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for his track ‘Feel’.

In an interview with France 24 TV, the ‘OBO’ hitmaker, whose career in the music industry spanned over 13 years, said he believes that he “deserved to have clinched 20 Grammy Awards”.

Davido also gave a shoutout to the Recording Academy for eventually recognising him for his hard work in the past years and his efforts on his last album.

“Shout out to the Recording Academy. This is my first nomination ever. So it is crazy to just get three nominations at one time. We worked really hard on this album, record. I was just always patient. If you ask me if I deserve Grammys in the past, I need 20 Grammys already. Even before this year. But like I say, God’s timing is the best. We will see what will happen,” he said.

“God’s timing is the best. But you know African music has been dominant for years. So if you are asking me if we should have gotten recognition since, definitely. But things take time. And like I said, God’s timing is the best. I am happy for this category.

“Not only for myself but for other nominees that were also nominated alongside me. It is very beautiful. People back home can make African music and win a Grammy. So that is really amazing to see. I would not say late. I will say God’s timing.”

The ‘Assurance’ hitmaker released ‘Timeless’, his fourth album, on March 31, 2023.

On April 10, the album secured the 37th spot on the United States Billboard 200 chart.
