For a long time, men’s fashion was confined to a narrow ideal—tailored suits, plain shirts, and muted colours. But in recent years, a new wave of style has emerged, one that blurs the lines between what was once considered exclusively “for women” or “for men.”
In other words, men’s fashion is being rewritten. Gone are the days when masculinity had a single uniform; now, it is about experimentation and redefining norms. Across global runways and urban street culture, men are embracing unorthodox styles that challenge tradition and invite creativity.
Here are five unconventional fashion pieces now being worn by men:
1. Crop tops and jackets

For a long time, cropped shirts, jackets, and sweaters were seen as women’s wear. However, the tides have changed, and they are now popular among male celebrities and typical “Gen Z” fashion lovers. Men now pair crop tops with joggers, cargo pants, or wide-leg trousers, creating a balance between edgy and casual.
2. Skirts

Skirts are now being worn by men on both the runway and the streets. Even traditional wrappers and George fabrics are often tied around the waist in ways that mirror the silhouette of a skirt. Designers have begun to integrate skirts into men’s fashion, and a growing number of men are experimenting with them in different styles.
3. High-heeled boots

High heels—particularly boots, once seen almost exclusively as part of women’s fashion—are steadily making a statement in menswear. Though not yet fully mainstream, more men are beginning to embrace heeled boots and shoes as a way to elevate their personal style. Usually paired with slim trousers or oversized coats, the look offers more height, audacity, and drama.
4. Handbags and purses

Gone are the days when men carried only briefcases or backpacks and used only wallets. Today, handbags, purses, and mini crossbody bags are part of men’s streetwear looks. From runways to parties and lavish events, more men are embracing bags not just as practical items but as fashion statements.
5. Sheer tops

Sheer tops are fast becoming one of the boldest statements in modern menswear. Once limited to women’s wardrobes, transparent fabrics like chiffon, lace, and mesh are now being reimagined for men who want to add an edge of sensuality and playfulness to their outfits. The look often balances daring confidence with high-fashion elegance.
