The police in Lagos have arrested 43 more fun seekers at a nightclub in the Maroko area of Victoria Island for flouting COVID-19 protocols.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson of the Lagos police, said the fun seekers were arrested on Sunday at Eclipse Night Club situated along Ligali Ayorinde street.
TheCable had reported how the command had nabbed 237 people during a raid on nightclubs across the state.
In a statement on Monday, Adejobi said the latest arrest followed an order from the commissioner of police to the area commanders, divisional police officers (DPO), and heads of department in the command to be on the prowl for violators of COVID-19 protocols.
“In continuation of its due enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines in Lagos, the police arrested 43 clubbers including strippers at Eclipse Night Club, Ligali Ayorinde Street, Victoria Island on Sunday 10th of January, 2021,” the statement read.
“Operatives attached to the Maroko Division, on the order of the commissioner, CP Hakeem Odumosu, went after deviant clubbers and got them arrested clustering and clubbing without any regard for the COVID-19 protocols.
“The commissioner has ordered that the suspects be moved to the task force office, Oshodi for prosecution. He also ordered that club owners should no longer be spared as they encourage total disregard for the protocols in the state.
“CP Hakeem Odumosu, based on reports and updates on the spread of the pandemic, has however admonished Lagosians to be law-abiding and value their lives as the pandemic is a global reality.”
The 237 fun seekers who were earlier arrested during the operations had been arraigned by the police.
