Burna Boy has thrown a jab at Davido for losing his three nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Both singers recently faced disappointment at the award ceremony held last week.
Davido, a first-time Grammy nominee, was nominated in three categories. He, however, lost all of his nominations, while Burna Boy, who won a Grammy award in 2021, also lost his four nominations.
In a post on X, a user who appeared to be a fan of Davido slammed Burna Boy for losing at the 2024 Grammys.
The user also called Burna Boy a “new cat”, and claimed that Davido is “bigger” than him.
“Bottle 4 Grammys in one night. 10 Grammys nominations 1 win and the werey think say he don complete music,” the user wrote.
“@burnaboy u are a new cat do not let dat small achievement get into your head. Davido is bigger dan u.”
Reacting to the criticism in a now-deleted comment, Burna Boy said the real joke was the profile picture of the critic, which featured Davido.
“The actual joke is in your display pic.😂.” he wrote.
Upon seeing the singer’s response, the 30BG fan changed his profile picture to the image of Burna Boy.
This has sparked further reactions from fans on social media.
Burna Boy and Davido — alongside Wizkid — are considered to be the biggest artistes in Nigeria in contemporary times.
Their fans have always been divided over who is superior.
In June 2023, Davido described Burna Boy as a “new cat” in the Nigerian music industry.
In a subtle response, Burna Boy said being seen as a “new cat” keeps him feeling young and extends his lifespan.
“I love that. Because it keeps me young. It means like, I can do so much more, you know. It stretches my life span,” he said.
