Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, has revealed that his stage name was inspired from his habit of drawing comic book superheroes like Spiderman and Superman.
The ‘Last Last’ singer, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, brought the revelation to light when he featured on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon‘.
Burna Boy said at a point as a child, he decided to come up with a name for his own character.
“This is weird but I used to draw comic books and copy different superheroes like Spiderman, Superman and I would just draw it,” he said.
“At one point, I wanted my own superhero, where I could draw myself as a superhero with the cape and all that. I was trying to come up with a name and all I could think of was Burna Boy.”
The ‘African Giant’ crooner also spoke about his recently released album titled ‘Love, Damini’.
Burna Boy said Ed Sheeran, the British RnB singer, who featured in ‘For My Hand,’ a song off the album, is “one of his favourite people in the world.”
He added that Ed Sheeran had a cheat code because he played the guitar, which made their collaboration easier.
On July 8, Burna Boy released the 19-track body of work featuring the likes of Ed Sheeran, Popcaan, Ladysmith, J Balvin, Kehlani, Black Mambazo, Khalid, J Hus, Boxset, and Victony.
