Burna Boy, multiple-award winning singer, has rejected an invitation by Omoyele Sowore, convener of the RevolutionNow protest, to join the march scheduled for October 1, which is Nigeria’s 60th Independence Day anniversary.

Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, had taken to his Twitter page to invite the ‘African Giant’ crooner to join him in the protest.

The former presidential candidate said Burna Boy is famed as a revolutionary musician to the extent he is even compared to Fela Kuti, the late Afrobeat legend, by the foreign media.

The politician, however, wondered why the ‘Ye’ singer had never led any protest in the country.

“Hello Burna Boy, everywhere I turn people describe you as a revolutionary musician, the foreign media even celebrate you compare you to Fela Kuti, but I am yet to see you lead anyone to a police station carrying a coffin for head of state! Join #Oct1stProtest #RevolutionNow,” he wrote on Tuesday.

In a swift reply, Burna Boy vehemently told Sowore that he doesn’t trust Nigerian politicians because “they are the same”.

“Everybody is a Fela fan and supporter now that he is dead. Humans are so funny, you politicians are all the same (especially in Nigeria) and frankly, I don’t trust none of you.@YeleSowore,” he wrote.

In 2019, Sowore had birthed the RevolutionNow protest in demonstration against “bad governance and corruption” in the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
