Eminem, a US rapper, has come through with ‘Zeus’, a new song, wherein he offers an apology to Rihanna for “taking sides” with Chris Brown, her ex-boyfriend, when he assaulted her in 2009.
At that time, Brown pleaded guilty to the assault and received five years of probation and a community service order.
In ‘Zeus’, Eminem raps about using offensive lyrics in a past song in which he said he “sided” with Brown after his assault on Rihanna after a pre-Grammy’s party about 11 years ago.
“But, me, long as I re-promise to be honest / And wholeheartedly, apologies, Rihanna. For that song that leaked, I’m sorry, Ri / It wasn’t meant to cause you grief / Regardless, it was wrong of me,” Eminem could be heard rapping.
In the decade-old song, which was not released but leaked in 2019, Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, had said “of course I side with Chris Brown.”
Dennis Dennehy, Eminem’s spokesperson, while reacting to the leaked lyrics, had said: ‘This is a leak of something that’s over 10 years old. After Eminem recorded it, he scrapped it, and rewrote it. Obviously he and Rihanna have a great relationship.”
The award-winning singer has since then worked on some collaborations with Rihanna, some of which include, ‘Numb’ (2012), ‘The Monster’ (2013) and ‘Love the Way You Lie’, the hit single from ‘Recovery’, his seventh studio album released in 2010.
