Burna Boy, the Afrofusion singer, says his grandmother is the inspiration behind his song titled ‘Thanks’.
‘Thanks’ is one of the tracks on ‘I Told Them’, the singer’s seventh studio album.
Burna Boy, in the song featuring J.Cole, the American rapper, celebrated his success and journey to stardom.
“Is this the motherf**king thanks I get for making my people proud every chance I get?” the lyrics of the song read.
In a post via X on Sunday, the Grammy award-winning singer said he recorded the song because of his grandmum who always wanted him to come home.
Burna Boy said she is now quick to ask him to leave whenever he visits.
He added that he is spending this December with only his grandmum to keep the peace.
“My Grandma used to be the one crying for me to come back home, now she’s on edge every time I come back home and is already asking when I’m leaving,” he wrote.
“This is why I made ‘Thanks’. I’m rolling with only her this December for peace to reign”.
Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy started to gain fame in 2013 after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’.
In 2021, the singer set a record in Nigeria after his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall’ won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammys.
Speaking of his recent album, Burna Boy said ‘I Told Them’ showcases a side of himself that is not often seen in the public.
