President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family of Chris Mba over the death of the famed musician.

The singer died on Wednesday at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday after a long battle with heart issues.

In a statement on Friday by Garba Shehu, special assistant to the president, Buhari extended his “deepest condolences to family, friends, and fans of Chris Mba.”

He hailed Mba for his “contributions to the growth of the Nigerian music and entertainment industry.”

The president also described the late musician as “one of the icons of Nigerian highlife music, whose works brought excitement to many households and his admirers in social and corporate functions.”

“In paying tribute to the gifted voice, the President recognizes the contributions of the artiste to the growth of the Nigerian music and entertainment industry, a feat recognised and celebrated by his colleagues in the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) and Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN),” the statement added.

“The President prays for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed, and comfort for those who mourn.”

Mba gained fame in the late 80s up to the 90s with the release of his classics like ‘Baby Don’t Cry’ and ‘Money’.
