President Muhammadu Buhari has honoured Burna Boy with a member of the order of the federal republic (MFR) award.

The president also conferred 2Baba and Teni with the member of the reasons order of the Niger (MON).

The three music stars were among the 447 Nigerians and friends of the country honoured by the president at the 2022 National Honours Award Investiture.

The ceremony took place at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in the federal capital territory (FCT).

In a now-viral video, Samuel Ogulu, the father of Burna Boy, is seen receiving the award on his behalf from Buhari.

The award comes against the backdrop of Burna Boy’s heroics in the global music landscape.

Last year, Buhari hailed the musician after he clinched his first-ever Grammy award.

The ‘Ye’ singer had emerged winner of the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category for ‘Twice As Tall‘, his 2020 album.

In a statement, Buhari said the musician has made notable contributions to music and brought glory to the country with his achievements.

“Congratulations to Burna Boy on being conferred the 2021 Grammy, the world’s most prestigious musical award,” he had said.

“He has made notable contributions in the field of music which have brought glory to Nigerians at home and abroad. We are proud of his path-breaking achievements.”
