Jason Alexander, the ex-husband of Britney Spears, the US singer, has been arrested for allegedly trying to disrupt her wedding to Sam Asghari.
The singer had infamously tied the knot with Alexander on January 3, 2004. But the union crashed after 55 hours.
On Thursday, Spears got married to Asghari, her long-term boyfriend, at her home in Thousand Oaks, California.
According to CNN, while the wedding lasted, police got a report of an attempt to scuttle the occasion by Alexander.
Cyrus Zadeh, an officer with the Ventura County police, said when Alexander gained access to the 40-year-old singer’s house, he was confronted by security operatives.
In the ensuing melee, two security guards were said to have been battered.
It is understood that Alexander was arrested in the process and thereafter charged with misdemeanor trespassing, two misdemeanor counts of battery, and misdemeanor vandalism.
Mathew S. Rosengart, counsel to Spears, also confirmed the arrest in a statement.
“He was detained, handcuffed and I’m please(d) to report, arrested. Fortunately, Britney is safe,” the statement read.
“I’m livid by this security breach and am working closely with law enforcement to ensure he is aggressively prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The singer’s latest wedding makes it her third marriage in 18 years.
In 2004, she married Kevin Federline. The pair welcomed two kids — Sean and Jayden — together before parting ways in 2007.
