Blackface has released a solo album under the name of Plantashun Boiz, a defunct music group he was a part of.
The group, which included 2Baba and Faze, was formed in 2000 and was known for its unique blend of hip-hop and R&B.
Plantashun Boiz disbanded in 2004 after releasing two albums. However, in 2007 they briefly reunited for an album.
In an interview with Television Continental (TVC), the dancehall singer revealed he has put his stage name Blackface Naija on hold “for a long time” to focus on releasing music exclusively under the Plantashun Boiz name.
“What I want to do now, going forward, is release music as Plantashun Boys. You are not going to see Blackface Naija on the shelf with a new song in a long time. It is going to be Plantashun Boys,” he said.
The singer said he has already begun the process with his recently released album ‘The Return’. According to him, the project has about 18 to 19 tracks, including a song titled ‘Emotions’ that features Faze.
Blackface said 2Baba is absent from the album because he chose not to participate in the project despite prior plans to record together.
“I have an album out now also under Plantashun Boiz’s name titled ‘The Return’, and it has about 18 to 19 tracks. In the album, Faze has a feature in it; the song is titled ‘Emotions’, but 2Face is not on the album.,” he said.
“He is not on the album because he does not want to come to be part of it. We already had the time to go to the studio but he doesn’t want it.
“If someone gives the impression they are not ready to anymore, will you keep waiting or move ahead? So, I moved ahead.”
Since 2015, Blackface has constantly tackled 2Baba for recording the 2004 hit ‘African Queen’, which he claimed he wrote.
In 2017, he argued that 2Baba “sabotaged” his career in the music industry.
But in October 2023, Blackface sought to end the rift after asking the ‘African Queen’ hitmaker to forgive him for his “wrongdoings, knowingly or unknowingly”.
