There’s no stopping Marvel’s Black Panther as it continues its astonishing run with a $65.7 million domestic gross in its third weekend.
It has now grossed a total of $501.1 million in North America alone.
The superhero blockbuster now has the ‘third-highest third weekend’ record of all time after ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at ($90.2 million) and ‘Avatar’ ($68.5 million).
‘Black Panther’ is the second highest grossing Marvel movie of all time at the domestic box office, leaving ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ in its trail at $459 million and aiming to catch up with ‘The Avengers’ ($623.4 million).
The frenetic buzz around the movie starring Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B Jordan has cut down the numbers of two new movies which may have done better if Black Panther was not grabbing such a huge amount of moviegoers.
Jennifer Lawrence’s spy thriller ‘Red Sparrow’ launched with $17 million and Bruce Willis’ ‘Death Wish’ debuted with $13 million.
The Ryan Coogler-directed Black Panther is expected to become the biggest non-ensemble superhero flick despite inflation and not having a holiday-release advantage.
The picture has earned $897 million worldwide, on a clear path to a possible $1 billion by the end of next weekend.
