Chacha Eke, a Nollywood actress, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).
In a video shared on her Instagram page, Eke refuted claims that her marriage to Austin Faani Ikechukwu, her husband, had ended in divorce over a case of domestic violence.
She said she had been examined by medical experts who revealed she was suffering the condition, which she initially ignored.
“Five days ago, I made a video saying that my marriage to Austin Fani is over. That video came with lots of backlash, with many insinuating that it’s a clear case of domestic violence,” Eke said.
“It’s not. Austin has never laid his hands on me. He has never even raised his voice at me. And God in heaven knows that’s the truth. I’m here at Fiesr Delta American Hospital, Asaba, receiving treatments.
“Several psychiatrists have come to assess me mentally and I’ve been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Bipolar is real. Here in Africa, we tend to not know about it because of ignorance.
“Or we overlook it. I can not tell you all how I’ve been feeling with these videos I’ve been making.”

Eke rose to fame when she starred in ‘The End is Near’, a 2012 drama film. Her marriage to Faani, who is a movie director, in 2013 has birthed three children.
