Tara Durotoye, the entrepreneur, has disagreed with Betty Irabor, the publisher and founder of Genevieve magazine, over her recent statement about pastors.

In a post via her Instagram page on Monday, Irabor asked “men of God” to stop asking their congregation to pray about the “current economic crisis” of Nigeria.

She also said they should rather become “answered prayers”, by doing charitable work for their members.

“Dear ‘Men of God’, can you please stop asking people to pray for solutions to Nigeria’s current economic crisis?” she said.

“How about you actually becoming answered prayers by opening food banks, blood bank, soup kitchens, shelter, and dispensaries for your members.”

Her opinion was posted after Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG), requested that members of his congregation pray over the rising exchange rate in Nigeria.

However, Durotoye opposed Irabor’s stance on the issue through a post on her IG page.

Tara argued that many pastors already do charitable works for their members, but do not “generally publicise it”.

She also cited Paul Adefarasin, the founder of House on the Rock church, as an example of the “men of God who do charity”.

“I disagree with this post. Many ‘Men Of God’ already do this e.g food banks etc,” she said.

“Let me start by saying that churches generally do not publicize when they do this. This is my first post for the year but needed to post this here.

“If your man of God does the above, please let us know, tag them. I will start with mine @pauladefarasin @houseontherockchurch. Happy New Year!”
