Baba Dee, the singer and filmmaker, has recalled a robbery involving himself and Segun Arinze, the ace actor known for his role as ‘Black Arrow’ in the movie ‘Silent Night’.
‘Silent Night’ is a 1996 action film centered around a robbery, where individuals from different backgrounds come together to form a gang.
In a recent Instagram post, Baba Dee recalled how he and Arinze were traveling to Benin for the wedding ceremony of the late filmmaker Chico Ejiro when they encountered a robbery in Ore.
The producer, born Dare Fasasi, said to their surprise, the robbers recognised Arinze and hailed him as ‘Black Arrow’.
Baba Dee said Arinze’s portrayal of the notorious cultist in ‘Silent Night’ earned him “street credibility among armed robbers”.
He added that the unexpected encounter showcased the power of Nollywood and how its characters resonate with fans.
“I kid you not, this is a real life story. I was in Ore somewhere in Benin and I was riding with one actor and then we got there and there was a robbery and we had to park the vehicle,” he said.
“We were actually going for a wedding, so we parked. Somehow I just noticed that all the armed robbers were coming to hail the actor ‘Black Arrow! Black Arrow!’. This is the only actor with street credibility among armed robbers.
“My friend, Segun Arinze, is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s most talented actors. I once embarked on a memorable journey with him to Benin City for the wedding ceremony of the late Chico Ejiro.
“At the time, Segun had attained near cult-like status for his portrayal of the infamous “Black Arrow” in the hit movie Silent Night.
“Midway through our trip, we were forced to stop in Ore due to reports of an ongoing armed robbery.
“Now, picture this: the most notorious screen armed robber-Black Arrow himself-waiting on the roadside with other travelers, all of whom were terrified of real-life robbers. The irony was nothing short of hilarious!
“When we finally made it to Benin, the reception Segun received was mind-blowing. Everyone wanted a piece of Black Arrow. Some people even went as far as kneeling before him, asking for his blessings.
“I realized then that, as long as I stayed close to him, I was untouchable-every robber around seemed to regard him as their senior colleague!
“It was a surreal experience that perfectly captured the power of Nollywood and how deeply its characters resonate with fans. Segun Arinze remains a living legend, both on and off the screen!”
