Anakle, a digital media agency co-founded by Editi Effiong, has a track record of creating unforgettable digital experiences. Now, the company has paired with Inkblot Productions (The Wedding Party, My Wife and I, The Arbitration, Out of Luck, The Department and New Money) for its first feature film entitled Up North.

The movie features Nollywood couple, Banky W and Adesua Etomi, Kanayo O Kanayo, Michelle Dede, T-Boss and Bauchi state governor – who, apparently, auditioned and made a guest appearance in the film.

Up North is directed by Tope Oshin, a multi-award winning filmmaker who has, just this year alone, blessed the culture with feature films like New Money and We Don’t Live Here Anymore.

But the movie is exciting as it partly swaps the over-used, cosmopolitan Third Mainland Bridge and Lagos landscapes for the very unfamiliar views of Bauchi where the film is set.

Much like Genevieve Nnaji’s latest movie, this is an opportunity for film lovers to experience a different part of Nigeria through well-produced visuals.

The film follows the character played by Banky W, a rebellious heir who is sent to the northern part of Nigeria for his NYSC. Up-North is timely as it comes at the time NYSC has faced several controversies and bad publicity – what with forged certificates by public office holders and influential persons who openly flout the rules of the service.

Back in June, during the movie’s production in Bauchi, Anakle boss, Editi Effiong wrote about how he met the Bauchi governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, on a plane while returning home from a research visit to the state in 2017.

Ediong said the governor has been supportive since the movie was in pre-production, apparently keen on bringing more production companies to his state.

“I’m trying to diversify my state economy, and I’ve been begging Nollywood people to come and make films here. I have to support you guys, so you can go tell others. Also, you’re employing a lot of Bauchi people,” the governor was credited to have said.
