Aminat Yusuf, the Lagos State University (LASU) best graduating student with 5.0 CGPA, has opened up on her journey to academic excellence.
The law student is the first undergraduate in the institution’s history to get 5.0 CGPA.
Speaking with NAN on Thursday, Yusuf said she struggled financially in school but she resolved to defy the odds through hard work.
The student said she was motivated to pursue a perfect CGPA as an undergraduate after getting 4.98 CGPA during her direct entry (DE) programme at LASU.
“I studied really hard and prayed so fervently towards achieving excellence; I graduated from the programme (direct entry) with a CGPA of 4.98 and this was the best in my set,” she said.
“The possibility of graduating with such grade motivated the yearning to graduate with a perfect CGPA at the undergraduate level.”
Yusuf also backed the student loan bill signed into law by President Bola Tinubu. She said with the initiative, other female students will not struggle financially in school like she did.
“I believe this will no doubt be of immeasurable value to our education system,” she said.
“While I struggled financially through my education, I don’t desire such hardship for students coming behind us, especially the female students.”
Yusuf also announced plans to launch a YouTube channel to teach law.
“I will like to use this opportunity to launch a YouTube channel tagged ‘Learning Law with Aminat’ with a goal of giving back to society through my immediate community,” she added.
On Thursday, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, gifted the student the sum of N10 million to celebrate the feat.
