Amaechi Muonagor, the ace Nigerian actor, has passed away at the age of 61.

Tony Oneweek, the ace singer who is also a cousin to the actor, confirmed his demise via Instagram.

Amaechi was said to have died after a long battle with kidney failure.

In November 2023, the ace actor revealed that the left side of his body had been “paralysed for several months”.

The ailing actor said the sickness caught up with him while he was on a movie set.

Tony Muonagor, another cousin of Amaechi, earlier disclosed that the actor battled with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.

He said the actor’s condition deteriorated, requiring weekly dialysis and physiotherapy at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra.

Amaechi was born on August 20, 1962. He was a native of Idemili, in Anambra state. He got married and gave birth to four children.

After his youth service in 1989, Amaechi started working for the News Agency of Nigeria.

A few years later, he left his job to play the role of Akunatakasi in ‘Taboo 1’, his first movie.

Amaechi’s demise came a few weeks after the death of John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor, the ace Nollywood actor.

Mr Ibu died from a cardiac arrest on March 2 at Evercare Hospital in Lagos. The 62-year-old actor had battled with a life-threatening illness for months before he passed on.
