The incident occurred at the Udo Idiong Junction of the Obio Okpa campus on Sunday.

It was gathered that Enwongo Akpan, a 200-level student of the Department of Philosophy, got into a disagreement with a roadside petrol dealer over his product.

Akpan was said to have bought N500 petrol from the roadside petrol dealer.

The student was thereafter said to have confronted the petrol vendor after unknowingly buying what he claimed to be “adulterated” fuel.

The victim was said to have returned the fuel to the dealer after he claimed that it failed to power his generator and an argument ensued between the duo.

During the confrontation, the petrol dealer allegedly poured the content in the gallon on Akpan and set him ablaze.

It was said that he struck a match on him before he caught fire while other people scampered for safety.
