Battle On Buka Street’, the movie by Funke Akindele, has become Nollywood’s highest-grossing film in history.

In its latest data, the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) revealed that the movie has raked over N640 million after nine weeks in theatres.

The data, released on Friday, showed the project topped Nigeria’s box office from February 10 to 16.

Battle On Buka Street’ was released on December 12, 2022. It tells the story of rivalry, where two women find themselves at loggerheads once again as they set up food businesses on the same street.

The project features several movie stars including Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Sola Sobowale, Nkem Owoh, Kelvin Ikeduba, and Tina Mba.

With the development, the hit project has surpassed ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, another movie by Akindele, as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.

It also makes Akindele the first Nigerian filmmaker to gross over N500 million twice at the local box office.

FilmOne entertainment, the movie’s distributor, took to its Instagram page to celebrate the feat.

“If the only competition you have is yourself was a person, it is clearly @funkejenifaakindele. What a woman. What a movement. What a movie. What an achievement,” it wrote.

“Not once but twice she has set a record and she has broken her record. Ladies and gentlemen we present to you the ‘highest grossing Nollywood movie of all time’ — ‘Battle On Buka Street’.

“Thank you Nigeria. We definitely couldn’t have done this without you. @funkejenifaakindele here is to breaking more records. Thank you to the incredible cast and crew that made this movie possible. We appreciate you”.
