Adele Adkins, British singer and songwriter, has filed for divorce from Simon Konecki, her estranged husband, after years of marriage.

The filing was lodged on Thursday at a court in California, where she and Konecki, 45, with whom she has a six-year-old son, have had a home since 2016, the year they married.

Konecki is the co-founder of Life water and its charity Drop4drop, which promotes global access to clean water.

The 31-year-old R&B vocalist had hinted their separation after she got photographed without her wedding ring in April.

When separating, a statement was issued stating that the pair are “committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy.”

The duo had started dating in 2011, had Angelo, their first child, in 2012, and thereafter tied the knot in a secret wedding ceremony.

While the much-celebrated vocalist is yet to comment officially on the divorce, the move comes on the heels of Miley Cyrus, an American singer’s crashed marriage to Liam Hemsworth.

Adele has received numerous awards over the course of her music career including the Brit Awards Critics’ Choice in 2017 and a Grammy Awards in 2009 for the ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best Female Pop Vocal Performance’ category.

Having released a total of three studio albums and done several collaborative singles, Adele is well known for her songs ‘Hello’, ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ and ‘Skyfall’ released in 2005, 2011, and 2012 respectively.
