Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has stirred argument on Twitter over comments made while celebrating his wife’s 72nd birthday.
In a flurry of tweets on Monday, the 77-year-old cleric showered Foluke with accolades while also speaking on how submissive she is to him, despite being a powerful woman.
Adeboye also urged young married women to be compliant to their husbands, adding that his wife still cooks for him even in the midst of her busy schedules.
He added that no matter how successful a woman is, she must still submit to the man because, according to the Bible, the man is still the head of the house.
“Today is my wife’s birthday and there are lessons that women, especially so many young brides can learn from her. She is a powerful woman, I know that,” he wrote.
“She has many people who take instructions from her, but as powerful as she is, and even though she has seen me in my weakest moments, I have no doubt that I am her head.
“It does not matter what is on her itinerary if I say I would like you to go with me to so and so place the best she can do is try to convince me otherwise. If I insist, she would cancel whatever she was to do and come along with me.

No matter how educated or successful you are, your husband is your head and you must regard him as such at all times. It is a terrible thing for a husband to feel his wife is his head. Many men are misbehaving in their marriages simply because they want to establish #MGO72

Busy as she is, she still cooks my meals and serves me herself. Many young ladies these days leave everything to the house help. My wife still trims my nails for me. There was a time when I was a teacher and was staying far from town. #MGO72

His tweets have since given rise to dispute on Twitter. While a number of users took to the social media platform to accuse the cleric of promoting “patriarchy”, others came to his defence.
“Pastor Adeboye scoring a 40 yard screamer for patriarchy,” a user wrote.
Another user wrote: “Pastor Adeboye isn’t the cause of y’all misfortune. How he chooses to celebrate his wife shouldn’t be your headache. Most of you your father doesn’t remember your mum’s birthday. Men that can’t even tell their wives Good morning, instead they wake her up with “You don warm soup?”
“Pastor Adeboye should have just said “happy birthday flesh of my flesh” and keep it moving. Now we know he can’t do basic things like feed himself and trim his nails,” a user added.
Here is what some Nigerians had to say:
Pastor Adeboye isn't the cause of y'all misfortune. How he chooses to celebrate his wife shouldn't be your headache. Most of you your father doesn't remember your mum's birthday. Men that can't even tell their wives Good morning, instead they wake her up with "You don warm soup?"

Using your wife's birthday to air your fragile masculinity to be superior is one of the signs we've got the wrong role models. Just tweet "stay jiggy" next time.

can't believe Adeboye really sat down & found a way to make his wife's birthday about himself and his power over her. a simple "happy birthday my love" will do next time please

Pastor Adeboye is irritating

Young ladies of this generation that think they know it all, Pastor Adeboye is only expressing how submissive his lovely wife has been these past years even before most of you were born, yet y’all slam him and you can’t even keep a Relationship for 5months..🤦🏾♀️

I like how Pastor Adeboye likes to rile up woke Twitter. He does not need your validation for anything. He is celebrating his wife the best way he can. Take your energy and tears and use it to mend your parents marriage.

Normally,Women are supposed to be submissive to their Husbands,Pastor Adeboye was just stating facts and Appreciating his wife for being submissive,so it's stupid to insult him, when he was just being right. Plus:if he was a terrible Husband, submission would have been hard for her pic.twitter.com/pe5VgNnmWZ

Pastor Adeboye's thread was an admonition for his congregants, it really shouldn't bother woke twitter, Will and Jada already gave you the woke marriage edition.
— Davidson™ (@Dahveydson) July 13, 2020
Pastor Adeboye decided to praise his wife on her birthday, thereby commenting on what has kept them together till date. But fools that can’t keep 6 months relationship are insulting him.
— Bossmann™ (@RealBossmann) July 14, 2020
Woke Twitter that can't keep a r/ship for a year are insulting Pastor Adeboye that has been married for 53yrs because he praised his wife and some people are retweeting and kiking under the tweet.
Next generation will be funny. You better choice your role model wisely.

If you don't like how Pastor Adeboye and wife live their lives and how they are a model for greater number of people, you can take after Will Smith and Jada and entangle.
Stop the attack on conservative Christian values in the name of wokeness, modernism and liberalism.

This is a generation of people that are never ready to learn both genuine scriptural and moral values from experienced elderly and righteous fathers. Go on with your useless western philosophy into your marriages. When your marriage crashed, we shall see whether the idea of liberalism will help you. Don’t cry in your the secret. When you spoil your marriage and stay without husband, plastic puppet will be your husband. Foolish modern madness ladies.
