Peju Ogunmola, the Nigerian actress famous in the Yoruba film industry, has lost Ayomikun, her only son.

Seun Oloketuyi, the founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, announced Ayomikun’s demise in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

He expressed sadness over the loss of the actress’ son while revealing he “was only 24 years old”.

“Breaking: Peju Ogunmola loses her only child. He was 24. Such a sad day,” he wrote.

The cause of his death remains to be known.

Some of Ogunmola’s colleagues took to social media to offer their condolences to the actress.

In a post via Instagram, actor Femi Adebayo described the actress’ loss as “the weight no mother should bear”.

“Life has written a line too heavy for the stage. Today, we mourn with our dear elder, a thespian whose heart now carried the weight no mother should bear,” he wrote.

“My thoughts and prayers are with you ma. May Almighty Allah grant him Alannah Firdaus.”

In her tribute, Bukky Wright wrote: “There are no words for such a loss. Please know that I am holding you and your family in my thoughts”.

On his part, Muyiwa Ademola disclosed that the news left him ‘heartbroken”. He added that only God can console the actress and prayed for divine strength to help her bear the loss.

“This is sad. It is such a sad news. It broken the heart. No accurate words of condolences. The words are not coming. Not even sure if this is right or wrong,” he wrote.

“Just felt I should do something. The only one to console you is God. May the Almighty be with you aunty. This is too much to shoulder, bear.”

Peju is the daughter of veteran actor Kola Ogunmola. She began her career in the early 2000s as a playwright, director and producer, and has since featured in several films including ‘King of Thieves’, ‘Beast of Two Worlds’ and ‘House of Ga’a’.

She is married to Sunday Omobolanle, the Nigerian comic actor popularly known as Papiluwe.
