A female student of Lead British International School in Abuja has apologised for bullying her colleague.
On Monday, videos surfaced on social media showing a student of the school, later identified as Namtira, being slapped by her colleague.
In the videos, Namtira is surrounded by uniformed colleague students while a female among them — later identified as Maryam — is dealing her smacks on the face.
The students are then heard making such comments as “Who broke my heart” and “I spoilt her relationship” within the school premises.
The development attracted a chorus of condemnation on social media, with Nigerians demanding that measures be taken to punish the culprit.
The school management, in a statement on Tuesday, said it had begun an investigation into the matter.
But in a video, Maryam registered her apology to Namtira for “bullying” her, adding that she wished it “never happened”.
“My name is Maryam Hassan and I am sincerely sorry for what I did to Namtira. I am also apologising to all you people out there. I am sincerely sorry, I wish this never happened,” she said.
The management earlier revealed that the school will be closed for three days.
The school representative announced the closure in the presence of Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the minister for women’s affairs.
