Sakari Momoi, who received a certificate from Guinness World Records in 2014 as the world’s oldest living person, took the title from Alexander Imich, an America, who passed away on June 8, 2014, aged 111 years and 124 days.

Momoi, a resident of Saitama city, north of Tokyo, responded with a smile as his family celebrated his birthday with him, citing his 66-year-old son, Hiroo.

“Momoi lives in a hospital in Tokyo. He enjoys his food, stays active and practices calligraphy,” the family told newsmen.

The family said that they were very happy that Momoi had reached the birthday safe and sound.

The native of Minamisoma in Fukushima prefecture used to be an agricultural chemistry teacher and principal of public high schools in prefectures of Fukushima and Saitama.
