The singer’s application comes months after the passing of Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who died in July at the age of 91 after a 64-year reign, one of the longest in Nigerian history.

In a formal letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, KWAM 1 declared his intention to ascend the ancestral stool.

In the letter shared with TheCable Lifestyle, the music icon stated that his bid aligns strictly with the provisions of Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State chieftaincy laws.

The 68-year-old artiste, born Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, traced his eligibility to his royal lineage, noting that his ancestry descends from the Jadiara line of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Agunsebi Quarters.

In the letter, KWAM 1 highlighted his decades of cultural advocacy, citing over 50 years of promoting Yoruba and Ijebu heritage through his music.

He also listed key honours bestowed upon him, including the national award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 2022 and the traditional title of Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu, conferred by the late Awujale.
