Crayon, the Nigerian singer, has laid his mother Evelyn Chukwu to rest.

The Mavin Records artiste, whose real name is Charles Chibueze Chukwu, recently announced the passing of his mother.

The singer described July 4, when Evelyn died, as “the darkest day of my life”.

He eulogised her as his “soldier, backbone, and pillar,” expressing the profound void her departure has left.

The funeral was held in his family’s hometown of Umuagom, Onicha Igboeze, in Ebonyi, where family and friends gathered to pay their final respects.

In a moving tribute that has since gone viral, Crayon stood by his mother’s casket, vowing to uphold the virtues she instilled in him.

The ‘Ngozi’ hitmaker painted a poignant picture of her lifelong sacrifice, revealing that for 21 years, his mother, affectionately known as “Iya Carrot,” sold fruits to sustain the family.

“Iya Carrot, number one fruit seller. For 21 years, you sold fruit to take care of Peace, me, to take care of your sister, and everybody. You do not mind to give your last card? That is who you are,” he said.

“I promise you one thing Mummy. I, Chibuez,e will not change. I will make sure I keep everything. I love you Mum. See you later.”

Crayon is known for hit singles such as ‘So Fine’, ‘Ijo Labalaba’, and ‘Tele’.
