Eniola Badmus, the Nigerian actress, has come under heavy criticism after claiming she delivered a speech at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The high-level UN event took place between September 9 and 28.

In a post on her Instagram page, Badmus said she spoke on “innovation, gender inclusion and partnerships for a sustainable energy future”.

The actress also shared several photos of herself standing at a podium flanked by the UN and Nigerian flags.

“Grateful to speak at #UNGA on innovation, gender inclusion & partnerships for a sustainable energy future,” she wrote.

“I’m also grateful to have attended the Future Africa Forum 2025 at The Africa Center, powered by Afreximbank’s Global Africa Gateway.

“It was an incredible opportunity to connect, share, and learn alongside brilliant young leaders who are shaping the future of our continent.

“The conversations, collaborations, and networks built here are priceless, and I look forward to seeing how these connections spark new possibilities for Africa’s growth and transformation.”

Badmus’ claim, however, drew backlash. Several social media users accused the actress of misrepresenting the event she attended.

Some X users identified the location of her photos as Nigeria House in New York rather than the UN headquarters. Others argued that she did not speak at any formal UNGA session, but a side event at the Nigerian embassy.

“This is the Nigerian Embassy in New York (Nigerian House) not the UN Building. It was not a UNGA event and she did not even speak there. The clout chasing is insane,” a user wrote.

Another user asked: “Wetin Eniola badmus know about sustainable energy?”

One user said: “Peep that charger behind. Can never happen in the real UNGA podium. Let’s see the edit.”

“Eniola Badmus just disgraced herself with that post. Why would you even attempt to show yourself as what you’re not? Lifetime mocking material,” a user wrote.
