The interaction sent fans into a frenzy, with many celebrating the potential end of a feud that had divided Nollywood stakeholders for years.

Origins of the rift

Rumours of discord first gained traction in 2021 after Abraham released ‘The Ghost and the Tout Too,’ a film that drew comparisons to Akindele’s works. Industry insiders speculated about behind-the-scenes tensions, fueled by gossip and perceived competition.

Last year, Abraham opened up about the conflict, admitting that external narratives had caused “damage” and created unnecessary rivalry.

She expressed hope for reconciliation, stating that maturity had helped her realise both could succeed without negativity.

Akindele and Abraham rank among Nigeria’s most successful filmmakers.

Akindele recently claimed the title of 2024’s highest-grossing lead actress with ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa,’ while Abraham secured third place with hits like ‘Alakada: Bad and Boujee’ and ‘American Japa.’
