President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) scheduled to take place in Lagos from November 25 to 30.

The endorsement on Friday follows a request by the African Union Commission (AUC) for Nigeria’s collaboration on this year’s event, themed ‘Unstoppable Africa’.

The federal ministry of arts, culture, tourism and creative economy, alongside the ministry of foreign affairs, also inaugurated a local organising committee (LOC) to coordinate planning efforts with the Lagos state government and AFRIMA.

Speaking during the LOC inauguration in Abuja on Wednesday, Hannatu Musa Musawa, the minister of arts, culture, tourism and creative economy, said the government was fully ready to host what she described as “the best AFRIMA yet”.

“This is more than just an awards show. It is a major platform to create jobs, promote tourism, celebrate African talents, and tell our positive stories authentically through music to the world,” she said.

“We are excited to work with the Lagos State government, the AFRIMA team, and the African Union to deliver a world-class event.”

Ugochi Akudo-Nwosu, director of entertainment and creative economy, said Tinubu’s support reflects his administration’s commitment to strengthening the creative economy.

“On behalf of the ministry and our agencies, we thank President Bola Tinubu for granting Nigeria this opportunity to host such a historic event,” she said.

“We also commend the Honourable Minister for the platform she’s provided to collaborate with AFRIMA, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is co-chairing the LOC.”

The LOC includes representatives from federal ministries such as arts, culture, tourism and creative economy; information and national orientation; foreign affairs; interior; youth; education; and aviation.

Also represented are agencies like the Nigerian Film Corporation, National Film and Video Censors Board, and National Council for Arts and Culture. Delegates from AFRIMA’s international committee and the African Union are also involved.

Mike Dada, president and executive producer of AFRIMA, said the partnership signals a “loud statement” about the creative industry’s role in Africa’s future.

“We thank President Tinubu for his quick and visionary approval and backing of AFRIMA 2025,” Dada said.

“Nigeria has always been a creative and cultural powerhouse. With this support, we are confident that this year’s AFRIMA will be an unforgettable celebration of African talent and creativity for the whole world to see.”

AFRIMA, which returned to Nigeria after the last edition in Dakar, Senegal, is broadcast live to 84 countries and has been in partnership with the African Union since 2014.

AFRIMA aims to recognise and promote African music globally through its awards ceremony, music festival, business summit, talent discovery, and advocacy work.

The 2025 event will feature a range of activities, including the Diamond Showcase, Africa Music Business summit, AFRIMA music village, nominees and industry party, and the award ceremony.
