Kafayat Shafau, the dancer and choreographer better known as Kaffy, has launched an enterprise aimed at “transforming Nigeria’s creative industry”.
In commemoration of 25 years in dance, Shafau announced the first edition of the wellness event tagged ‘Transform With Kaffy’.
The event, set to combine fitness training, mental health education, and spiritual alignment, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 9 at the Landmark Event Centre, Lagos.
At the unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, Kaffy disclosed that the new venture seeks to tackle longstanding structural issues in Nigeria’s creative industry, where talents often lack access to scalable business models.
“We’ve always had talent. But the business structure that allows creatives to evolve and scale is missing. That’s what we’re fixing,” she said.
She also explained that the Kaffy Kreative Agency offers 360-degree services including choreography, talent management, project execution, and corporate engagements.
It would also train and employ young talents at above-industry wages, providing career sustainability in a traditionally unstable sector.
She also appealed for more funding and partnerships, adding that more than 80% of her brand’s development has been funded from personal resources, with banks and institutions initially dismissing dance as a viable business.
“I’ve built this for 25 years from personal funding. Imagine what we could do with real backing. This an investable vision,” she added.
Accordingly, her creative enterprise would now be housed under Kaffy Incorporated, which is also the parent company to all her other business ventures.
The ceremony was attended by Aproko Doctor, celebrity fitness coach Kemen, fitness and wellness executive Akinpelu Gbenga Olalekan and record label executive Osagioduwa Malkin (Oduwa).
