The journalist, Livinus Victor, says he is out to promote press freedom in Nigeria.

The attempt, which will dwell on the topic “Nigeria Our Strength”, is to take place from April 17 to 20 at the Harrow Park Golf Club in Abuja.

Speaking about the challenge at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Abuja, Victor said journalists continue to carry out their mission with courage and integrity, despite increasing threats to press freedom.

He described journalists as the pillars of democracy and guardians of truth, adding that their role in promoting transparency cannot be overemphasised.

“As misinformation spreads and trust in institutions wavers, professional journalism remains a vital defense against disinformation and manipulation,” the journalist said.

Victor also called for the protection of press freedom and investment in quality journalism.

He said his GWR attempt is to draw national and international attention to the centrality of a free press in a thriving democracy.

He argued that it will contribute to the broader call for respect, safety, and dignity for journalists.

Victor added that the attempt will feature conversations with notable individuals from diverse sectors.

On her part, Grace Ike, the NUJ chairperson, lauded the journalist’s initiative as timely and courageous.

She described it as a bold reflection of the enduring power of journalism to inform, educate, and drive societal progress.

“Through this 72-hour interview marathon, we aim to spotlight these issues and advocate for stronger protections for journalists in every corner of the world,” she said.

In 2024, Chizoba Kronborg, the Nigerian social media entrepreneur, set a world record for the longest interviewing marathon with a time of 55 hours 24 seconds.
