Oxlade: I dropped out of LASU due to threat from cultists over my good looks

Oxlade, the Nigerian singer, has detailed why he dropped out of the Lagos State University (LASU).

Last year, the musician revealed that he left LASU due to threats to join a cult group.

In a recent interview, Oxlade argued that members of the cult group were after him because “I am a fine boy”.

The 27-year-old singer added that he had to drop out of the institution during his final year to save his life.

“I dropped out in my finals in the university. It was a crazy phase for me,” he said.

“There were some gangs coming for me because I was a fine boy. Fine boy is a material, so it’s either you join them or they off you.

“So I had to just leave that whole setup. I went to LASU, go and read about LASU. Now, they are more focused on academics because they realise how fickle life is.

“Now they know how important it is for you to fulfill your dreams. So I think they’ve piped down on that and everybody is looking for money. But at that point, it was a hot period.”

Oxlade started to gain attention after he released ‘Away’, his 2020 hit single.

The track also made the Rolling Stone ‘top 50 best song list of 2020,’ spurring him into the limelight.

The singer is signed to Troniq Music, Epic Records in France, and Columbia Records in the United Kingdom.
