Ayra Starr, the Nigerian singer, and South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa will be performing at the 2024 Creative Africa Nexus Weekend ((CANEX WKND) concert.
CANEX WKND is a premier event showcasing Africa’s vibrant creative and cultural industries. This year’s edition will be held in Algiers, Algeria, from October 16 to 19 2024.
The theme for this year’s ceremony is ‘One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World’.
One of the event’s highlights will be the CANEX concert on October 17. It will be open only to registered CANEX WKND delegates.
Other music stars to perform are South Africa’s Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, who produced the 2019 Amapiano album ‘Scorpion Kings’.
Kenyan singer Sofiya Nzau, and Tinariwen, a Tuareg music group from the Sahara region of southern Algeria, are also billed to perform at the event.
Tinariwen are considered pioneers of desert blues, combining traditional Tuareg and African music with Western rock music.
The four-day event offers a unique platform for creatives from across the continent and beyond to showcase their work, network with industry leaders, and explore business opportunities.
This includes exhibitions, roundtable discussions, masterclasses, live performances, gastronomy showcases, music, dance, poetry, and other artistic expressions.
The objectives of CANEX WKND include increasing Africa’s share of global cultural trade flows, deploying specialized financial products, facilitating technical capacity programs, and advocating for harmonized regulatory reform.
Attendance is free. Interested individuals can register online here.
