The mother of Precious Oforum, the sound engineer who lost his life alongside Junior Pope, the actor, in a recent boat mishap, is begging Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers state, to assist in bringing her son’s body back home.
Pope and several crew members met their untimely demise on April 10 when their boat capsized in the River Niger near Asaba, Delta state. They were traveling to a movie location.
In a now-viral video, Precious’ mother could be seen pleading with Fubara for help in repatriating her son’s remains for a proper burial.
She said her son’s spirit is “restless” and fears that she will die if she does not lay eyes on him.
“I call you governor of Rivers state to come and help me. As I dey here I no well, na that my son dey treat me. Now, no one to treat,” she said in a mixture of English and pidgin.
“Try and visit the family and see wetin you go do to carry my son back because one lady call me dey tell me say the spirit dey disturb for Asaba. So make una help me, if I no see am I go die.”
Abigael, the makeup artist who also died in the boat accident, was initially laid to rest by the riverbank.
However, Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom, while paying a condolence visit to Abigail’s family, promised that her corpse would be returned for a “proper and dignified” burial.
