Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker, has narrated the childhood struggles that shaped his life path.
In a recent interview with Korty EO, Osimhen recalled a time when his family struggled to make ends meet.
The Napoli forward said he sold sachet water and sports newspapers at the Ojota bus stop and also fetched water for neighbours to “feed my family”.
Osimhen said his greatest win is to be able to “feed myself, my family and the ones closest to me”.
“I was only imagined to be a professional football player when I was still in the trenches. Then the situation of my family was really tough so we had to go sell sports newspapers at Ojota bus stop, sell pure water,” he said.
“As at that time, I was fetching water for my neighbours. Sometimes the rest of the house would have light and our own room does not have. I have got my friend here in the trenches, he used to give me food.
“I think for how far I have come and from where I am coming from, I consider myself a legend. To be able to feed myself, my family and the ones closest to me is the greatest win that I have ever won in my life.”
Osimhen led Napoli to the Serie A title last season — the club’s first in 33 years.
The Super Eagles striker also scored 25 league goals to become the league’s highest goal scorer, setting the record as the first African footballer to achieve the feat.
The 24-year-old also led his country to AFCON 2024 qualification where he is also the leading goalscorer in the series.
