Burna Boy, the Afrofusion singer, has opened up about the inspiration behind ‘I Told Them’, his anticipated album.
On Tuesday, the self-proclaimed African Giant announced the tracklist for the music project which is set to be released on August 25.
In the 15-track project, Burna Boy enlists J. Cole, Dave, the rappers, and Seyi Vibez, the Nigerian singer.
Speaking in a recent interview with Apple Music, the singer said the album encapsulates “not only my personal feelings but also the collective spirit of my unit”.
The Grammy-award winner also said the album showcases a side of himself that is not often seen in the public.
“It kind of showed me exactly the way I wanted to express what I was feeling and what my unit was feeling. The spirit of my unit. Just put that in because this is every day,” he said.
“This is a side that people do not really get to see because I do not really care for anyone to see. I have fun with it like this. But I felt like this time, this is a way… How do I put it?
“A more understandable way to pass that feeling and that energy across. And at the same time, showing you that’s… Not you. Showing everyone that the combination of worlds is something that we have not really capitalized on.
“Because at the end of the day, once we are all unified, everything else, the fruits of that just take care of everything.”
Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy hit the limelight after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’.
In 2021, the singer set a record in Nigeria after his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall’ won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammy Awards.
