Osun people will resist electoral robbery, says Davido

Davido, Nigerian singer, says people of Osun will “lawfully” resist any “attempt of robbery” during the state’s upcoming election.

The state is scheduled to hold its gubernatorial election on July 16.

The top contenders in the poll include Gboyega Oyetola, the incumbent governor who is candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC); and Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeleke is Davido’s uncle. The singer had campaigned for him during his first attempt at the state’s highest office in 2018.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on September 23, 2018, declared the Osun governorship election inconclusive.

Joseph Afuwape, the returning officer, said the margin between Adeleke and Oyetola was not significant enough to declare a winner.

Oyetola was later declared winner after a supplementary election was held in seven polling units across four local governments.

But on Monday, the ‘Stand Strong’ singer said he’s sure people of Osun will lawfully resist all attempts to rob them of their votes.

He said they will lawfully avoid a repetition of what happened in the just concluded Ekiti election. 

Davido said there will be cause to rejoice after the election on July 16.

“Osun is not Ekiti as our people will lawfully resist all attempts to rob them as was done in 2018 … July 16 we shall rejoice ! See y’all soon,” he wrote on Twitter.

On March 19, the award-winning singer mocked Bamidele Adeleke, his cousin, after he was defeated by his uncle in the gubernatorial primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
