Uche Odoputa, the Nigerian actor, has lamented the abduction of Kenneth Odoputa, his father, by suspected gunmen.

In an Instagram post on Monday, the film star said his father has been in the kidnappers’ den for over two weeks.

He also called on friends to support him in praying for his father’s return.

“Friends please join me in praying for my father safe return from the hands of kidnappers that took him for over 2 weeks now. Mr Kenneth Odoputa,” he wrote.

He, however, did not disclose when and where his father was abducted.

The development comes amid concerns over insecurity and the rising rate of abductions — particularly on highways — in Nigeria.

Rita Edochie, the Nollywood actress, had earlier decried the situation, adding that security operatives who are supposed to be on the hunt for kidnappers are instead deployed to the south-east to hunt secessionists

“Insecurity on all our highways. Nobody is fighting them but the securities that are supposed to be on the highways looking for these kidnappers are in the southeast where there is no problem,” she had written.

Mr Macaroni, the comedian and actor, had also weighed into the widespread killings and abductions in the country in recent times.

“It is shameful how innocent Nigerians are being killed from time to time and all it ever boils down to for some people on here is APC vs PDP. Where is our humanity? Is this still politics?” he had asked.
