‘Ayinla,’ a movie by Tunde Kelani, the ace filmmaker, has won the ‘Best African Narrative Feature’ award at the 2022 Pan African Film Festival.
Kelani announced the win in an Instagram post on Thursday while also congratulating everyone who played a part in the movie’s success.
“Ayinla wins Programmer’s Best African Narrative Award PAFF Los Angeles 2022. Congratulations to our talents crew, executive producers, producers, and our rep team in Los Angeles and Pakistan,” he wrote.
“Thanks and God’s blessings. Tk Ayinla coming soon on NETFLIX.”

The film examined the life and times of Ayinla Yusuf, the late Apala music star better known as Ayinla Omowura.
Ayinla was a sensation in the 1970s who dazzled many music lovers with his brand of songs before his tragic death on May 6, 1980.
The singer reportedly died at 47 in his hometown of Abeokuta, Ogun state, after he was badly injured during a brawl at a beer parlour.
His biopic was released on June 18 2021, by Kelani and co-produced by Jade Osiberu’s Greoh Studios.
In the movie, Lateef Adedimeji, who played Ayinla, was the centre of attention and heated controversies in his community due to his popularity.
It featured several other prominent figures including Mr Macaroni, Omawunmi Dada, Bimbo Manuel, Bimbo Ademoye, and Ade Laoye.
