Shatta Wale, the Ghanaian dancehall singer, has been remanded in police custody for one week.
The 37-year-old has been in custody since Tuesday when he was arrested for “falsely” claiming he was attacked by gunmen.
Shatta was charged with publication of fake news but, at the Accra circuit court on Thursday, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding judge subsequently adjourned the case until the next hearing set for October 26.
Until then, the singer is expected to remain in custody for five additional days, spending one week in detention.
On Monday, the internet was awash with reports that the musician was shot at East Legon in Ghana.
The police thereafter announced that it had launched an investigation into the alleged gunshot attack.
But in a lengthy post via his Facebook page on Tuesday, the music star confirmed the development.
He had further claimed that his “life is in danger”.
Shatta called out the country’s police for not arresting a prophet who declared he would be shot on October 18.
