Two students of the Federal University Lafia, Nasarawa have been abducted after gunmen attacked the Mararaba Akunza community of the state.
Ramhan Nansel, the spokesperson of the state’s police command, confirmed this to TheCable Lifestyle on Sunday.
He said the chief security officer at the varsity reached out to report the abduction at noon on Sunday.
The spokesman said this was after sporadic gunshots were heard during the rain in the area at 7 pm on Saturday.
Previous reports had claimed that four were abducted that evening and that the kidnappers have made contact with the family of the victims on Saturday night to demand N25 million ransom.
Speaking on the development, Nansel said: “Four students were not kidnapped. The details are still sketchy.
“At 12 pm, the chief security officer at FU Lafia came through the kidnapping unit of the Nasarawa state police.
“He said, at about 7:15 pm yesterday while it was raining heavily, they heard sporadic gunshots. They said the gunmen later left. Nobody reported to the police. It was today they went back to the area to make findings.
“They later heard that two of their students were abducted. Since we got the report, we’ve swung into action. The investigation has since commenced. That is the information available now. Just two people, not four.
“Series of actions have been taken since our investigations commenced. For security reasons, we cannot disclose those now. Once the investigation is concluded, the press will be informed.”
As of when this report was filed, the varsity authorities were unreachable and had yet to address the press on this.
