DJ Switch, a Nigerian disc jockey turned activist, is set to address the International Criminal Court (ICC) on “Accountability in Nigeria: Time for Action”.
The virtual event, which is scheduled for 1pm on Thursday, may not be unconnected to the dust surrounding the incident that took place at Lekki toll gate on October 20.
Switch had gone into hiding after she filmed the shooting of #EndSARS protesters by the army at Lekki toll gate.
The ICC had also opened a preliminary inquiry into the allegations of harassment and brutality by the country’s police.
In a post on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Switch, whose real name is Obianuju Udeh, disclosed that she would be joining the 19th assembly of state parties to the ICC in the virtual event.
“Today 17th of December 2020, I will be speaking at the 19th assembly of states parties to the International Criminal Court. I know we are all experiencing hardship one way or the other,” the disc jockey wrote.
“I know it seems like no one cares enough for Nigeria and Africa to help us fight our oppressors. But this is the generation that does not take NO for an answer! So let me tell you straight up, it will take time.
“Maybe a long time. So what do we have to lose that we already did not have? Security? Jobs? A working health system? What do we have to lose? Don’t give up! I told you.
“I’m not great at social media and updates but we are fighting seriously behind the scenes, something will definitely give! #endsars #endbadgovernance #sorosoke.”
Switch’s appearance before the ICC comes after Fatou Bensouda, the court’s prosecutor, had stated that there is a “reasonable basis to believe that members of the Nigerian Security Forces (NSF)” had committed crimes.
Last month, the DJ had told a Canadian parliament that the soldiers who shot at unarmed #EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate in Lagos told her they were acting on “orders from above.”
