Dayvon Bennett, a US rapper better known as King Von, has passed away at 26 after he was shot when violence broke out between two groups at a nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia, in the US.
Ghazi Shami, CEO and founder of Empire, a record label which signed the rapper, broke the sad news in a post on Friday.
“I woke up to some very horrible news this morning — my heart is heavy. Another young rising star gone too soon. I pray for your family lil bro,” he wrote on Instagram.
“May God rest your soul. We were just getting started. We have to find a better way. There is too much senseless violence. This has to stop. God help us.”
The scuffle was said to have taken place outside Atlanta’s Monaco Hookah Lounge in the early hours of Friday.
In the ensuing melee, two off-duty police officers — said to be working as security at the club at the time — had confronted the groups, resulting in more exchange of gunshots.
Timothy Peek, Atlanta police deputy chief, also confirmed the development.
“That physical altercation escalated into an exchange of gunfire with those groups. Two police officers who were working at that particular club, or lounge, noticed the altercation and engaged some of the people involved. There was an exchange of gunfire with police as well,” he was quoted as saying.
Born on August 9, 1994, the deceased rode to prominence after he released ‘Crazy Story’ in 2018.
