Clem Ohameze, a Nollywood actor, has narrated how a mob attacked and robbed him in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, during the #EndSARS protest.
Pictures had earlier surfaced online showing the film star’s hand and ankle bandaged. In one of them, he is seen entering his vehicle after visiting a clinic to receive treatment.
Speaking with BBC Igbo on Sunday, Ohameze said that the attack occurred on Thursday while he was working on a movie set along Abak Road.
“It happened on Thursday in Uyo. The protesters, I ran into them. On recognizing me, they just didn’t want to bother. They took everything away from me,” the actor explained.
“Took N650,000 from me, all my phones. Destroyed my car, slashed my hand with a machete. I did a police report when this happened. I was on Abak Road in Uyo. I went to work on a movie set of my own.”
Amid the crisis that ensued across the country as a result of the #EndSARS protest, there had been serial looting of private businesses, destruction of government properties, and burning of police stations.
This had prompted the declaration of curfews of varying durations to restore normalcy across states including Lagos, Ekiti, Edo, Plateau, Rivers, Kaduna, Kwara, and Oyo.
On the attacks, Davido, an Afropop singer, had recently said: “It is painful that what started as a peaceful protest has been hijacked and turned into complete anarchy.
“…in total disrespect to those that lost their lives during the Peaceful protest. This is def not the way to honour those that lost their lives while protesting peacefully.
“What is there to gain from burning and looting private businesses that provide employment to our own people?”
