Harvey Olufunmilayo, a Nigerian doctor and Twitter influencer based in the UK, has reacted after a colleague of his, who doubles as his one-time lover, claimed he had assaulted her sexually while they lived together.
On Tuesday, a lady, who identified with the Twitter handle (Bola Aseyan), fired a barrage of tweets where she made a number of inexplicit claims while narrating her encounter with the medical practitioner. She also shared screenshots of similar allegations made against Funmilayo by others.
“I have had enough. A woman can only tolerate so much abuse from a man. A completely different persona online, and a truly horrible man in person, an abuser to say the least, both sexually and emotionally. A human can only tolerate so much!,” Bola wrote in a flurry of tweets.

“I have proof of all this madness. And God in heaven knows I dread the negative type of attention but people deserve to know what a horrible human being this man is!!!! Horribly terrible!!!! Now you are calling people to call me and speak to me ba?!!! You are calling frantically.
“When you were sexually and emotionally abusing, you didn’t know it would resort to this. Because Bola doesn’t air dirty laundry, Bola is private, you think I’m stupid??! Your favourite influencer has sexually and emotionally abused me for so long, and I’ve been hiding it.
“I didn’t want to say anything because I DESPERATELY didn’t want to be in the news for anything bad here. I kept telling myself it would be over soon. I cannot take it anymore! Everyone is telling me to consider his profession and not say anything, I shouldn’t say anything. How about how I feel?

“Every time. I’m tired. I haven’t done a thing to deserve this. I have lodged a formal complaint with the police today! I cannot and will not take this anymore! We are both doctors. Both of us. And I’ve been too nice just because I thought it would end soon. You bully me every time.
“You know I hate social media issues and you have a lot of followers so it’s okay to do all these to me ba? Right!! I didn’t press charges, only because you would lose your license to practice, and I cannot bear to carry that much guilt in my heart. Even with everything that you’ve done.
“I’m still not a mean spirited person. I leave you to God to judge you, My head will judge you! I am irritated, to say the least at those who think my life occurrence is a gist that’s waiting to happen. You think I’m tweeting with eagerness and happiness. You think I want to be in this or it’s a joke?
Your favorite online influencer also a medical doctor in the UK who always has an opinion on every topic on Twitter, he is morally upright on the Internet, yet does the exact opposite of what he preaches online, preaching against rape and doing the exact opposite in person.

“I ‘m hurting. I’ve never thought it’ll resort to this. I use God to beg our fellow medical doctors in my DM asking me not to tweet or let it go. Please, they won’t abuse your children. Don’t give me unsolicited advice. I didn’t press charges, though the cops here in the UK asked me to, don’t push it.

meant to be a 3 week Trip with a flexible return ticket. Unfortunately, the lockdown was enforced.
4. During the abuse, the Air BnB’s contacted were not accepting bookings and movement was restricted within the UK.
5. I was never a Financial Burden while cohabiting.

“Online Bullies are the reason a lot of people do not narrate their ordeals in the hands of their so-called favorite influencers. They have 150K+ followers, the fear of taking their supporters on dissuades people from coming forward. I have filed a complaint legally and done my part.”
‘We both got drunk; sex happened unfortunately’ — Funmilayo denies assault claim
Hours after her tweets had gotten lots of people talking on Twitter, Fumilayo issued a long rebuttal.
The doctor narrated how Bola had “desperately” moved to the UK after two visa applications, solicited sexual intercourse only to call a day to his exams claiming she never consented to the sexual encounter.
He also recounted how they both regretted the encounter due to the turbulence that had started welling up in their relationship, noting that they had both consumed alcohol, which he said Bola had provided on one of the nights while they were both co-habiting, albeit, in separate rooms at his home.
According to the Twitter influencer, who describes himself as the ‘favourite online doctor’, they had met on the microblogging platform in November 2019 and started dating seriously but it later dawned on her — after that experience in the UK — that their relationship wasn’t meant to be.
“And then she came with the wine, we had it together. Unfortunately, sex happened. Some days after, I went for a course in London, which was 4 hours away. And she sent me a voice note, which I saw 10 minutes to the start of the course, in which she said she didn’t give her consent,” he wrote.

“And I said, ‘wait, are you trying to push this on me (in a bid to clarify if she was insinuating rape or sexual abuse)’ And she said in clear terms that no, she’s not pushing anything, let’s just move on and it should not happen again. I told her we both had alcohol, were both drunk, and had sex after.
“How did I abuse you? She in fact told two of my friends at the time that we were both drunk and we had sex but she regrets it. Those two are available to testify. She was asking for an ‘apology’, which I found awkward. I didn’t make you drink alcohol just as you didn’t make me either.
“From that point, I was trying to keep her at arm’s length. We were in the same house but I was just on my own, but obviously staying on my own cause I didn’t want any of that to happen again was making her very uncomfortable and then next thing she did was she started trying to seduce me.
“She’d wear bra and pants and come to my room and I’d just have to chase her away. There was a particular day where she came in naked. I had to stand on the bed, running around, called one of my friends to explain to him cause I didn’t understand what she was doing. After, I left the room.

“After that particular incident, it seems she got the message that we’re not together and we’d never be. There was already the pandemic at that time and there was no way she could leave and at the beginning of the pandemic. She wanted to go and I advised her saying it’s not safe to go.
“She interpreted that to mean I was asking her to stay back. Different issues kept coming up cause we weren’t talking even though we were in the same house. There was a lot of tension from Bola just because I was emotionally unavailable for her to own and date me. This was my OFFENSE.”
